The Closter Public Library was originally founded in 1956
through the generous donations of Miss Mary Baillie and the Mandle family.

Mission Statement

  • We want the library to be a cultural, recreational, and educational center for the community.
  • We are committed to offering you the best materials, reference assistance, programs, classes and events.
  • We want you to be satisfied when you visit the library. Your input is always welcome.

 

Library Cards

  • Every resident of Closter is entitled to a free library card.
  • You must show identification with proof of residence when applying for a card.
  • Your Closter Library card will be honored in all 75 member libraries of the Bergen County Cooperative Library System.
  • The green label on your card allows you to access libraries throughout New Jersey as well.
  • Lost cards may be replaced for a fee of $5.00.
  • Nonresidents may purchase a Closter library card for an annual fee of $600.00. Pay cards are only good in Closter and only for Closter material.

Reserves

  • on your computer through the library catalog search form above or the BCCLS homepage at www.bccls.org
  • on the telephone at (201) 768-4197
  • or in person here at the library

Renewals

  • POLICY
    • Closter Library material -- Two (2) renewals if no one is waiting
    • Out of Town material -- limit is set by the owning library.
  • PROCEDURE
    • Go online to www.bccls.org and click on My Library Card (you will need a 4-digit PIN in addition to your library card number) OR
    • Call the Closter Library at 201-768-4197 or any BCCLS Library OR
    • Go to any BCCLS Library and request the renewal of material.

 

Returning Materials

  • LIBRARY OPEN ---- return inside in the slot at the front desk.
  • LIBRARY CLOSED -- return in the book drop outside the front door.

Lost or Damaged Items

  • If you lose an item and are unable to return it to the library, your library privileges will be suspended until you pay the replacement fee.
  • If you find the item within 30 days of payment, we will refund your money less $5 for processing.
  • Material returned in damaged condition is treated the same as lost material and the library must be reimbursed.

 

Quiet Study Area -- NO TALK ZONE

Located at the far end of the library after the stacks and in the seating area in the stacks. It is designed to provde a quiet place to work. NO TALKING is permitted. Please respect your fellow library users.

 

Food in the Library

The facilities of the Closter Public Library belong to all of the residents of Closter. To protect these facilities, we do not allow any food or drink, except water in a closed container - which must be kept away from the computers.

 

Printing and Photocopying

  • Photocopier and printers are available.
    • Fees:
      • $.10 for black and white
      • $.25 for color
  • We DO NOT have FAX services.

 

Computers

  • There are 17 computers at the Closter Library for patron use, all with INTERNET service provided by Cablevision.
    • 9 Adult
    • 2 Young Adult (available to teens for gaming)
    • 3 Children's
    • 3 for checking the catalog
  • WIFI is available throughout the building.
  • **Between 3 and 5 pm during the school year, the library is the hub for Closter students. Please be aware that Young Adult and Children's computers are reserved for their use during that time.

Internet Use Policy

The Closter Public Library offers free access to the Internet. We hope to provide the public with the best resources available for finding information and exchanging ideas. The Internet is one of many tools you may use. The following is our Internet use policy.

  • Patrons access and use the Internet at their own risk. The connection provided is NOT secure. The library has NO control over the information and is NOT responsible for its content or accuracy.
  • Library staff will NOT monitor or supervise Internet access. Because the library is a public place, the staff reserves the right to end a session when material inappropriate to a public library setting is displayed.
  • Parents of minor children MUST assume responsibility for the materials accessed. Parental supervision is advised.
  • Staff will help users in getting started, but we cannot offer extensive assistance.
  • Failure to use the Internet workstation properly may result in revocation of Internet privileges.
  • Anyone tampering with the library computers will be held financially responsible for repairs.
  • During periods of high computer use, games, nonacademic email, and other nonscholastic computer use is restricted.
  • There is a fee of 10¢ per page for black & white and 25¢ per page for color to print materials.
  • The Closter Public Library may modify this policy at any time.
